Since its inception 16 years ago, CareWorks utilized an outside vendor to develop, manage and host its critical business applications and IT infrastructure. These systems were becoming outdated, cumbersome, and expensive to update and maintain as CareWorks grew to more than 900 associates. CareWorks did not want to put at risk its position as the preeminent service provider in Ohio’s workers’ compensation market, and made the bold decision to cease working with its long-time vendor and build all of its systems and related infrastructure in-house.

The impending expiration of the vendor contract mandated an aggressive timetable. CareWorks’ team was formed in May, 2011, and on February 26, 2012, delivered a first tier infrastructure and all required business applications with no interruption of service and improved business metrics in all areas!

Since its founding in Columbus in 1935, Grange Insurance has provided insurance protection exclusively through independent agents. By looking at the current insurance market, Grange determined that it could boldly grow its commercial insurance business by introducing a new small commercial product built on a new easy-to-use interface.

Using agile software development methodology, Grange was able to create and test this brand new system in just 16 months. Combining the new system with an updated product resulted in the release of BusinessAssure(SM), which will help its independent agent partners successfully grow and insure a wider range of businesses. The innovations in this transformation program included integrating multiple business units to work together, initiating new roles within the business and IT, aggressively ramping up staff with an implementation partner, and integrating automated testing to discover problems quicker. These innovations allowed the company to get the new product to market eight months sooner than expected.

To that end, Navidea has spent several years developing the next class of surgical diagnostic agents in oncology; Lymphoseek is the first product that will be approved. Lymphoseek will stand out as the only cell receptor targeted agent for innovative preoperative and intraoperative sentinel lymph node mapping and imaging in solid tumors. The Lymphoseek team’s efforts supported the integration of preclinical studies, clinical trials, and management of partnerships with scores of outside teams, including those of some 24 universities, 8 contract manufacturers, and the key sales partner, Cardinal Health. The performance of the team has exceeded all expectations with the anticipated launch of the Lymphoseek drug in early 2013 in both the U.S. and Europe.

The OhioHealth Fibroid Center of Excellence is a multidisciplinary team of gynecologists, radiologists and interventional radiologists who use advanced technology to provide minimally invasive and non-invasive fibroid treatment options, as well as invasive options that are individualized and tailored around the specific needs of the patient. The center offers the only magnetic resonance guided focused ultrasound surgery (MRgFUS) in Ohio, a non-invasive technology that destroys uterine fibroids without removal of the uterus, and with no incision, no hospitalization and no use of general anesthesia. Not only do patients go home the same day, but most patients can resume their normal activities within a few days.

It is worth noting that the OhioHealth Fibroid Center of Excellence is one of only four comprehensive fibroid centers in the country. Early on, leaders at OhioHealth made a decision to incorporate this technology and bring gynecologists and radiologists together to offer a comprehensive line of fibroid treatment options. Today, OhioHealth is the only large hospital system in the United States to adopt MRgFUS, a commitment to leadership that truly stands out.

The Riverside Radiology and Interventional Associates IT Division serves as the backbone of the practice. By providing a level of technology innovation unmatched in the marketplace, more than 24 additional clients have been acquired, 33 world-class radiologists have been successfully recruited and overall patient and referring physician satisfaction ratings consistently exceed national best practice scores in all categories measured.

In addition, the RRIA IT Division has assisted the group in achieving national recognition, including being ranked 10th by Radiology Business Journal’s 2011 50 Largest Private Radiology Practices in the nation; and serving as the official radiology group for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
